Re-Certification
"I am a Cox® certified doctor who has had the new [Cox7] table for over 4 years. I was amazed at how much I learned on improving my technique. If you have not returned to Cox Seminars in a while, you will be impressed by how much you will learn in areas you thought you had mastered. As you all know Dr. Jim does not sit still and the research is constantly getting better and better."
~ Orlando Part I (3/11) attendee for re-certification
Cox Technic Recertification offers certified Cox physicians the opportunity to study with each other, share their successes and challenges, their new clinical applications, their unique practice situations. It also is a means to assure the back pain and neck pain patients seeking Cox Technic Flexion Distraction and Decompression care that they will receive something similar to that which they have grown accustomed and with which they have experienced pain relief.
Goal of Recertification
The re-certification process enhances certified practitioners’ awareness and knowledge of the latest research outcomes and clinical application of flexion distraction procedures related to Cox® Technic as well as keeps the referral directory reliable. *
The Cox Technic Recertification Process Options
To attain/retain ACTIVE status on the website, you will do one of the following once every two years (to extend your listing for two years). Choose ONE:
-
Attend one PART 1 or PART 2 course (12 or 18 hrs) (no new test, only attendance).
-
Attend one PART 3 course (full hours available, usually 12) (no new test, only attendance).
-
Write a case report on a case that you treated using Cox Technic protocols (approved by the Cox Technic reviewers) in proper format and include a clear discussion of recent Cox Technic research outcomes.
You are encouraged to seek publication in
JMPT, Osteopathy & Chiropractic, Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, Journal of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists, etc.
Please check their websites for author instructions. If you do not choose to seek formal publication like that, we would like you to consider sharing/publishing it via this website. If published on a website, it is not able to be published in a journal, so consider your options before choosing journal or website publishing.

Maintenance of “ACTIVE CERTIFIED” Status
Once “certified” or "recertified," the physician's name is listed in the referral directory —
ACTIVE or
INACTIVE — unless you were not re-certified since 1/1/04.
Starting January 1, 2004, anyone who had not thus far “recertified” needed to do so by January 1, 2007 (three years later) or be removed from the “ACTIVE CERTIFIED PHYSICIANS” directory until “re-certified” and placed on the “inactive” list.
After January 1, 2004, the newly certified Cox Technic certified physician must take at least one course every two years to maintain his/her listing in the referral directory.
After January 1, 2007, all certified physicians must “re-certify” once every two years.
After “re-certifying”, the Cox Technic certified physician must take at least one course (12 hours) every two years to maintain his/her listing in the referral directory OR write a case report and have it published (website or journal). If a doctor takes more than one course by the end of his/her two years, that is fine, but hours are not carried over. A recertification course must be taken in the last 24 months prior to the last date of the (re)certification.
Examples:
Currently on list since 1/1/04. Re-certify by January 1, 2007.
Certified or recertified in November 2004: re-certify by January 1, 2007.
Certified or recertified in November 2005: re-certify by January 1, 2008.
Certified or recertified in November 2006: re-certify by January 1, 2009.
Certified or recertified in November 2007: re-certify by January 1, 2010.
Certify or recertify in November 2008: re-certify by January 1, 2011.
Certify or recertify in November 2009: re-certify by January 1, 2012.
Certify or recertify in November 2010: re-certifiy by January 1, 2013.
If a doctor is not re-certified, he/she is listed on in the referral directory with a notice of inactive of doctors until re-recertification.
* NOTE: Certification in Cox Technic Flexion-Distraction and Decompression (aka flexion-distraction) and listing in the referral directory is a responsibility as is maintenance of the listings as reliable. A patient seeking a practitioner who does this technique does so in hopes of finding a physician to care for his/her spinal condition with this technique on a flexion-distraction table. We strive to keep the listings accurate. Please keep in touch with us.
